Benton Park
Benton Park, named for the second oldest park in St. Louis, was declared a Federal Historic District in 1985. It's bold and distinctive Nineteenth Century architecture includes a range of buildings from Victorian mansions to townhouse to multi-family dwellings. Attention bargain hunters, home renovators and historians: the real estate market includes a selection of shells and inhabitable but unrestored buildings. Recently rehabbed quality homes attract a demographicaly diverse mixture of young homeowners, professionals, immigrants and artists. Special features of this area include an interesting selection of restaurants, bars with real character, Anheuser Busch Brewery, Cherokee Street Antique Row, the historic Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion, and haunted Lemp Mansion.
